Laura Rae Bernasconi of Mudita Arts for Peace- Performance Healing- raises awareness and funds for organizations who peacefully promote human and environmental rights. As a dancer, choreographer, wellness instructor and teacher of ballet, hatha yoga, AcroYoga, massage and Odissi dance, Laura works internationally with companies such as the Netherlands Dance Theater l & ll, Dutch National Ballet, Henny Jurriens Foundation, Circle Rotterdam, De Stilte/Breda, The Norwegian Opera and Ballet, Carte Blanche National Contemporary Dance, Skanes Dansteater, Ballet Nuerenberg, Tanzhaus NRW, Stadtheater Bern Ballett, Basel Ballet, Australian Dance Theater, La La La Human Steps, Alonzo King LINES Ballet, ODC Dance and Labayen Dance/SF, Amy Seiwert's Imagery, Dawson Dance, Zhukov Dance, Smuin Ballet, Dance Through Time, KunstStoff, Quimera Tribe and World Dance Fusion. Laura's work as a dancer and choreographer has been hailed by the SF Gate and Bay Guardian as "dances to watch, striking, fluid, lyrical, joyous, outstanding, clear, finely hued, elegantly stylized, profoundly erotic, incredible, surprising, tonic, lively." In 2015 Laura will be working with the Danish Dance Theater, Navdhara India Dance Theater in Mumbai and with the Jyoti Kala Mandir College of Indian Classical Arts in Bhubeneswar, India, combining classical and contemporary ballet, Odissi temple dance, AcroYoga, tribal fusion and improvisation. Laura's classes and creations are offered through empathy, compassion and mudita (vicarious joy) using principles of the Alexander Technique, Gyrokenisis, Gyrotonic, Tai Chi, Chi Qong and the Chinese Acupuncture system. Laura began her classical ballet training with Paul E. Curtis Jr. and Shawn Stuart in her home town of Los Gatos, California. Greatly influenced by teachers Enrico Labayen, Maria Veigh, Benjamin Harkarvy, Kristine Elliot, Milton Meyers, David Howard and Robert Joffrey, Laura was educated on scholarship at schools of the San Francisco Ballet, Cleveland Ballet and Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival. Laura danced the works of Hans Van Manen, Milton Meyers, George Balanchine, Carolyn Carlson and Martin Schlaepfer in New York City and in Europe and performed Classical Odissi Temple dance with the Jyoti Kala Mandir College of Indian Dance in India and the US. Ms. Bernasconi choreographed and performed the “Dance of Salome” for the Bruckner House Orchestra in Linz, Austria, At Shiva's Feet with Labayen Dance/SF at the Cowell Theater in San Francisco, Suite Simone and Nina in India for the RAW series at the Garage Artspace, Sensory Transcendence for the PILOT series at ODC Dance and "Raga" at ODC Theater. She re-staged the opera “Aida” for the dancers of Ballet Deutche Oper am Rheim at the LTU Arena in Düsseldorf, Germany. "Passion", "Nourishment" and "Hunger" have all received critical acclaim in San Francisco where Laura was deemed "choreographer to watch" by Allan Ulrich. Under the mentorship of Enrico Labayen, Laura is rehearsal director, founding member and performer of Labayen Dance/SF. She is an international guest teacher for Netherlands Dance Theater, Dutch National Ballet, Scapino Ballet, the Henny Jurriens Foundation, Amsterdam, La La La Human Steps, Dutch National Ballet, Scapino Ballet, Carte Blanche National Contemporary Ballet of Norway, Skanes Danstheater, Universitetet Stockholm, Norr Dans, Ballet Mainz, Bern Ballet, Ballet Basel, La La La Human Steps and the Australian Dance Theater, Alonzo King's LINES Ballet, ODC Dance, Smuin Ballet/SF, the Austrialian Dance Theater, The Norweigen National Opera and Ballet. Laura recently performed for the movies "PICO" and "Touch" by artist John Sanborn and is also a member of Dance Through Time and Kinetech.
