Since graduating from the performer’s department of Tilburg’s Dance Academy in 2008 Joana has worked in small projects in and outside of the Netherlands. She got her first professional experience with Omar Rajeh in Beirut (Lebanon) dancing in his Concerto 13, 2nd Movement. The piece went on to tour in the Netherlands and also made a quick appearance at the Danse l’Afrique, Danse festival in Tunesia. Inside the Netherlands Joana has worked with Yuri Bongers from Vloeistof, Minke Elisa Brands (Oop2), Gerard Mosterd (Gamelan and Jazz) and the Trippin Angels (various projects/gigs). She has also danced in Germany for Slava Gepner (Nightprayers) in Cologne and performed her own solos at Urban Styles in Aachen. One of her favourite collaborations so far has been with Giacomo Della Marina who’s solo she presented (What Then If About) at DDDD’s Solos @ The Sea in Den Haag and also at an art exhibition opening in Rotterdam’s Poortgebouw. Recently Joana did a handful of Burlesque gigs mainly in Amsterdam’s Comedy Theater and is now focusing especially on making her own opportunities with for instance Tamarah Kerling, Karavana (who she has also performed and choreographed for in the past) and Geert van Mil and Matthijs van Wageningen. Tamarah and Joana had their first performance in Wassenaar at a charity event in April, 2012 and are looking for more opportunities to showcase their work.
